TROY LABOUCANE
Troy is the voice coming out of your radio box, bright and early every weekday morning as the Rock 104 Morning Show Host. Week nights Troy, along with Jeff Dyck bring you the Top 6 at 6 and on the weekends you can find him retelling the history of some of your favourite bands and albums during Both Sides. Behind the scenes he is also the Music Director for Rock 104.
Born in Calgary, Alberta in the early 70’s… yes, the 1970s, Troy has always loved music. He has been fortunate enough to have been working with music in some form or another for the last 25 years. In the mid 90s, he began working at a record store. Had some incredibly great experiences on that end of the music world, his specialty was identifying those songs for customers who wanted the song they heard on the radio that was sung by a guy and it went “dum dum dah dee dum dee dah”. He was so incredibly adept at identifying songs with minimal information that playing Name That Tune at local pub nights became no longer fun. So, he took a job hosting those shows and also karaoke. After a few years of way too late nights, he finally decided what he wanted to do when he grew up. So, he became a studio trained engineer. Even worked as a studio tech in a place that dubbed English voices into Japanese cartoons. All of that was just stepping stones on the path to the real goal… radio. After a few years working in southern Alberta, he ended up at Rock 104 in 2014.
He sits in awe of those that can pick up a guitar or sit down at a piano and fire off song after song for three hours. Even more impressive to him are those that can create the music from whatever ethereal place song writing comes from. So, being able to bring the fruits of those talented peoples’ labours is one of his favourite things. Other favourite things include movies, game shows, concerts, learning new things and spending time with his favourite people.
Troy sits on the organization committee for Oldstoberfest primarily to help bring legendary bands to town. He also enjoys getting out into the community with Rock 104, attending the various events the town has going on through the year.
Most important to him are the wonderful people in his life. On air, you’ll occasionally hear him relay tales of “The Girlfriend”, his amazing children or “The Band of Morons” which is what he calls his cats that are a constant source of entertainment.
